OUR STORY

Sequoia Meadow Christian Camp is a religious non-profit, non-denominational Christian organization.

The camp was founded in 1939 by a group of ministry pioneers from the Whittier, California area who had a vision and a passion for Christian camping. When they found the site of what would become Sequoia Meadow in the 1930s, they fell in love.

This love prompted the move to build a camp that ultimately took years to build. Camping and life-change didn’t wait until camp was complete, as neither they nor we, believe camp is ever complete. So, over the course of construction, campers came from much of the Southern California area, resulting in many lives being changed forever. Since its founding, camp has played a significant spiritual role in the lives of well over 100,000 people.

Camp has truly been blessed over the past 80+ years, through the help of friends, volunteers, and staff, which remain an essential part of our camp’s lifeblood to this day.

We are blessed to serve groups from all denominations by making people’s stay at camp fulfilling and rich through their connection with God.

We’re consistently looking for ways to improve the camping experience, which is in part, defined by how we serve our guests and has prompted us to take a close look at our facilities.

This led us to the preparation of a new master plan for camp that will guide improvements through the coming decades. The focus of the plan is to improve the quality of the housing, enhance recreational offerings, and control costs to our guests by keeping camp affordable. We are not looking to grow in size, but to remain at a capacity of approximately 300 campers. We would welcome the opportunity to share the objectives of our Master Plan with you if you have questions.

In addition, we are currently a seasonal camp operating from May through October of each year. We have a desire to return to year-round ministry and will seek to implement improvements over the next few years that will allow us to operate year-round.

Events in the world over the past few years have challenged our progress, but have refined our commitment to continuing our ministry in Christian camping. We believe that the church, and our society, need this type of ministry even more now than prior to the pandemic. We will continue to persevere.

We had also never been directly affected by a wildfire, and in the past 2 years have been evacuated due to a few large wildfires, but we recognize God’s provision in protecting camp from the fires, for camp’s further service in his Kingdom. After this 2-year disruption, we hosted a full schedule in 2022 and are looking forward with anticipation to the coming seasons. We clearly view our ministry as one of hospitality, serving our guests while they encounter God. As such, we strive to become the hands and feet of Christ to our guests.

You will find us located in the Sequoia National Forest, Giant Sequoia National Monument on the slopes of the Western Sierra Nevada Mountains at an elevation of 7,200 feet. We are located approximately 45 miles east of Porterville and serve guest groups located in California from Sacramento south to the border.
