On Saturday, April 15, 2000; President Clinton
chose to ignored the cry of the people by setting aside 350,000 acres as a National Monument.  Over 12,000 e-mails were sent to the president and others through the Quaker Meadow web site.  Thousands of people made personal phone calls and wrote additional personal letters.  In the end President Clinton decided to proceed against common sense and the wishes of the people most affected by this decision.  In a speech at the time of signing the monument proclamation President Clinton was quoted as saying "This is not about locking lands up... its about freeing lands up for all Americans... for all time."  Quaker Meadow sincerely hopes that this is a true statement,  however we remain skeptical.

Quaker Meadow will continue to work with local and Federal agencies to ensure that the ministry and service of Quaker Meadow and other youth camps will be allowed to continue.  We are comforted in the knowledge that our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ is in control and that "in all things God works for the good of those who love Him" Romans 8:28.  Please continue to pray for this situation and the outcome of further details.
